Meet the Staff - Florentine

I may do all the writing around here, but I am not the one running around shooting and blowing stuff up. I leave that kind of stuff to the experts. I have noticed that when it comes to the Dust 1947 game there is actually surprisingly little information out there when it comes to paint jobs and tactics. I decided to try and fill that gap like a WWE wrestler coming into the ring, but lets be honest it's more like a high school wrestling match. I am attempting to help alleviate some of this issue with some tactica discussion and insights that I see in my local meta (mostly my living room). This is all my personal opinion and in no way should inform you on what is going to help you take over the world of super-competitive game tables, but maybe I can give you an idea you didn't think about.

This time around I am going to be discussing the gorgeous Valkyrie of the Luftwaffe, Lt. Florentine Engel from the Rakentruppe Korps.

Luftwaffe Florentine

Da Good
  • One of the best LOOKING models in all of Dust. (In my opinion.)
  • Laser weapon (This being a benefit is a stretch in my opinion.)
  • Still a really cool model.
  • Only Rackentruppe (Not Luftwaffe) officer in the game currently.
  • She is a hot....blonde...model?
  • Movement 3/6 with Fly
  • Can absorb hits for a Rackentruppen unit.
Da Bad
  • Cost at 10 AP
  • Lack of any weapons with decent range or damage.
  • Every other Luftwaffe hero seems to have a leg up on her.
  • Leader of a hero-specific platoon that is not very good. (In my opinion.)

Thoughts and Ideas

I have attempted to use Florentine on multiple occasions and I am just not sure I am seeing the whole picture. I see her cost and then I look at the rules and I have to wonder if I should put a black light on the card to see if the rest of the rules were written with invisible ink. Florentine has the advantage of being the only officer in the Luftwaffe faction with a jump pack, but since most of the other heroes in the Luftwaffe have the ability to drop in almost anywhere on the battlefield, it seems like a moot point.

The other Luftwaffe Rakentruppe heroes have better weapons and give the units they are joined to better rules. Goliath can't join units because he is a monkey and a monkey Luftwaffe unit doesn't exist.....yet, but he is just an asskicking machine with his fists. Kaori can us her assassin ability to kill specific targets and has expert for consistency. Raketenmann has a laser-based minigun and gives move and fire. What really blows my mind is that these other heroes get these benefits....and they are CHEAPER!

Conclusion
Florentine is an amazing model from the painting perspective and I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to paint multiple forms of black texture. The blond hair really makes the black pop and gives the model the perfect type of "motion" that I feel some of the other Raketruppen models lack. Florentine lacks in the unit ability department. She lacks in the having a decent weapon department. She lacks in reasonably costed department.

TLDL: Hate to say it, but I don't think she is going to leave my display case. The model designer gets an enthusiastic two thumbs up. The rules team really dropped the ball on this one in my opinion. I really hope she gets errated or changed in the future so I can use the model more often.

Am I wrong? Am I right? Was her blonde hair not the right shade of yellow? Well, give me a heads up because I really hope that I am wrong. I really want to see if this model can pull her own weight. Keep up the boom boom guys and stay on high alert for the next post.

Babylon Part I - It all Began with a Sandstorm

Pre-Game April, 1947 the NDaK and Blutkreuz forces under the leadership of Erwin Rommel and Sigrid Von Thaler would commit their forces to the new Operation Babylon. The goal of this mission was to map the Mesopotamian area and search for ruins and hints that would point to artifacts and alien secrets that would help finish the endless war on Earth. With the COVID situation I wanted to let the girlfriend try the game and lets just say that it took off like a warm barrel of gunpowder. Having always wanted to start a blog and give content to people this just seemed like a natural extension of the situation to me. I hope anyone who finds these posts enjoys and I would love comments of love or criticism. These scenarios will follow the ones in the back of Operation Babylon. The first scenario would be an attack on two objectives along a fairly long map.  Game 1 - Outpost Whisky  Axis 150 vs Allied 115 Straight from the Octagon Allied Command, Master Sergeant Kara ha...

Road to Argentis - Part V

Hello fellow wargamers! I have been a painting machine and lost track of time. I stopped being as attentive as I wanted to be with taking pictures and really just put the nose on the grindstone. I imagine this isn't too big a deal as people want to see the end product more than the way there. Work has finally allowed me back in full time so I may might even be able to afford food for the next few days. Thankfully, I love my job as Chiropractor so it only managed to brighten my week. With a move coming up next month I have to be sure that I keep up the pace or will have to show up to the event with the dreaded "hobo paint jobs." These damn hobo paint jobs always manage to steal my chance of having the pretties ponies at the show so it must be avoided at all costs. Here are the updates! First, I finished up a chunk of the tactical marines/veterans with the hope that some extra bits will show up at my house in time to add in some extra details to spread through the entire ...

Road to Argentis - Part VI

Hello Wargamers! The time to smash models together is coming quick. I feel the desire for a fully painted army burning deep inside me and no amount of Tums will quell the burn! The world seems to conspire against me to make sure I don't finish the great work however. I had to move recently and this drastically reduced the amount of time I had to paint since my station wasn't set up, but I continued to do what I could as much as I could do it. My airbrush even broke while I was doing some basecoats. I sprinted to a Hobby Lobby to buy a brush to make sure I wasn't slowed down any longer than necessary. Thankfully, all of the models have paint on them. Unfortunately, I don't think I am going to be able to put the full Dylan paint job experience on all of them. Corners must be cut in order to get it all done in time to a reasonable level. I am going to do as much as possible and attempt to go for the gold, but I must temper my expectations.  I managed to finish the Reavers ...
