Road To Argentis - Part IV Army List

The models are coming along well. Expect some pictures in the near future. Even with the progress I have been making it just illustrates how much more I have to do. It seems like everyone I know has been doing everything they can to slow down the process. I am just excited for the serotonin and dopamine hit to the FACE when I manage to put on the last highlights.

Anyway, I went over the rules and now its time to talk about the list I am bringing for the main 3000 point event.

Credit to Battlescribe for helping make the list.

So that's the list in all of its glory. The Sons of Horus Legion rules hit me in a "general purpose" way. They are better at doing certain things that don't make any one particular unit better than any other legion. Por ejemplo, my Blood Angels Legion rules facilitate smashing something to death in melee, but they also have the Dawnbreaker Cohort, which are amazing at exploiting their set of rules. The Sons of Horus don't have a particular set of units that exploit their rules in such a simple way. Their rules just make all of the units slightly better overall.

So the thought process behind this list is a combined arms approach. All of the units add value, but the enemy will not have a specific target that is going to swing the game once it is dead. The tactical marines and veterans form the core of the army, and remain cheap enough for me to bring all of the other goodies. The biggest target will be the Typhon, but it is very sturdy and should be able to survive a few hits before it explodes and kills all of my marines standing near it. I just have to make sure that its lifespan is filled with as much loyalist boom boom as possible. Target priority going to anything that has long ranged marine killing potential. Looking at you Mr. Thanatar with easy-bake plasma shoulder oven!

The Veterans are general purpose enough to be tackle soft targets, and the hope is that the melta guns will give me the anti-tank to be able to reach objectives. I doubt my arm is going to outkill anything, but I am sure that my ability to withstand a hit is going to be slightly higher than most. The Rhino will hopefully give them a bit more survivability for the first turn so that I can send the terminators at the harder targets. Thankfully, no special characters are allowed so I don't have to worry about a primarch slapping me across the face.

Not breaking military theory here by any means, but sometimes the simple approach is really the best.

Babylon Part I - It all Began with a Sandstorm

Pre-Game April, 1947 the NDaK and Blutkreuz forces under the leadership of Erwin Rommel and Sigrid Von Thaler would commit their forces to the new Operation Babylon. The goal of this mission was to map the Mesopotamian area and search for ruins and hints that would point to artifacts and alien secrets that would help finish the endless war on Earth. With the COVID situation I wanted to let the girlfriend try the game and lets just say that it took off like a warm barrel of gunpowder. Having always wanted to start a blog and give content to people this just seemed like a natural extension of the situation to me. I hope anyone who finds these posts enjoys and I would love comments of love or criticism. These scenarios will follow the ones in the back of Operation Babylon. The first scenario would be an attack on two objectives along a fairly long map.  Game 1 - Outpost Whisky  Axis 150 vs Allied 115 Straight from the Octagon Allied Command, Master Sergeant Kara ha...

Road to Argentis - Part V

Hello fellow wargamers! I have been a painting machine and lost track of time. I stopped being as attentive as I wanted to be with taking pictures and really just put the nose on the grindstone. I imagine this isn't too big a deal as people want to see the end product more than the way there. Work has finally allowed me back in full time so I may might even be able to afford food for the next few days. Thankfully, I love my job as Chiropractor so it only managed to brighten my week. With a move coming up next month I have to be sure that I keep up the pace or will have to show up to the event with the dreaded "hobo paint jobs." These damn hobo paint jobs always manage to steal my chance of having the pretties ponies at the show so it must be avoided at all costs. Here are the updates! First, I finished up a chunk of the tactical marines/veterans with the hope that some extra bits will show up at my house in time to add in some extra details to spread through the entire ...

Road to Argentis - Part VI

Hello Wargamers! The time to smash models together is coming quick. I feel the desire for a fully painted army burning deep inside me and no amount of Tums will quell the burn! The world seems to conspire against me to make sure I don't finish the great work however. I had to move recently and this drastically reduced the amount of time I had to paint since my station wasn't set up, but I continued to do what I could as much as I could do it. My airbrush even broke while I was doing some basecoats. I sprinted to a Hobby Lobby to buy a brush to make sure I wasn't slowed down any longer than necessary. Thankfully, all of the models have paint on them. Unfortunately, I don't think I am going to be able to put the full Dylan paint job experience on all of them. Corners must be cut in order to get it all done in time to a reasonable level. I am going to do as much as possible and attempt to go for the gold, but I must temper my expectations.  I managed to finish the Reavers ...
